Craig Garland is a Tasmanian fisherman and grassroots community advocate turned independent member of Parliament.
Born and raised in Wynyard, Craig has a deep love for the ocean and the bush, which fuels his passion to protect Tasmania’s North West and its communities. After years of campaigning on fisheries management, coastal protection, and other issues that affect people in his local community, Craig was elected to the Tasmanian House of Assembly in 2024—becoming the first independent from Braddon to win a lower house seat at state or federal level.
Craig entered politics out of frustration with the major parties, which he believes have lost touch with ordinary Tasmanians. As an independent, Craig is driven by a deep commitment to the people of Braddon, not party politics or corporate agendas. He stands for accountability, integrity, sustainable resource management and affordable housing and energy. As an independent, he answers only to his constituents. Known for his approachable, down-to-earth nature, Craig is a genuine voice for the people of Braddon.
Whether it’s in Parliament or out on a fishing boat, Craig brings the same passion and straight-talking honesty to everything he does.
